How Much Does March Madness Really Cost?

Share

Today I came across a pretty interesting article on MSN Money, which was about the amount of money employers lose thanks to the Men’s NCAA Basketball Tournament.

When you look at the numbers, it really is pretty staggering, and it may explain why your boss always seems to get pretty grumpy around this time of year… unless, of course, his or her alma mater is one of the favorites!

According to the article:

“The three weeks of the NCAA’s ‘March Madness’ could cost employers $237 million in lost productivity for every 13.5 minutes workers watch games online, according to consulting firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas.  That means employers could lose $3.8 billion over the 16 day tournament.”

And you thought you were losing a lot by blowing your $25 pool when you picked Texas and Wisconsin to play each other in the championship!
